Journey

The meeting "Youth in European Region Network” takes place 10 - 14 December 2008 in the youth hostel in Peseckendorf, Germany. All participants are expected to arrive in Magdeburg (capital of Land Saxony-Anhalt) on 10 December 2008 (Wednesday) latest in the afternoon, and leave on 14 December 2008 (Sunday) in the morning.

Journey by train or bus

It is possible to reach Magdeburg by train (Magdeburg Hauptbahnhof) or by bus (Magdeburg Busbahnhof). The bus station is next to the train station.

Journey by plane

Nearest airports are in Berlin, Hanover or Leipzig/ Halle.

Arrival at Berlin

  • Arrival at Berlin-Tegel
    Participants, who arrive by plane in Berlin, have to take a train from Bahnhof Zoo (Train station Berlin Zoologischer Garten) to Magdeburg. There are shuttle busses “X9” from the airport to Bahnhof Zoo. The bus ticket costs 2,10 Euro and can be purchased from the bus driver.
  • Arrival at Berlin-Schönefeld
    Leave the airport. First you have to take the metro line 9 (direction “Spandau”) to the metro station (S-Bahn) Bahnhof Zoo. Starting from 8:38 there are S-Bahn to the Bahnhof Zoo every 20 minutes. The journey takes 49 minutes. Please consider: The last possible metro to catch the last train to Magdeburg leaves at 20:58.   • Berlin Bahnhof Zoo – Magdeburg Hauptbahnhof
    There is a direct train connection to Magdeburg. Trains to Magdeburg leave every hour (Check on www.bahn.de/international/view/en/index.shtml). The journey takes about 1:35 hours. There are some trains in between these times. In that case the journey takes longer and you need to change the train. The first train leaves at 5:19 and the last one at 22:49.

  • The ticket costs 23.70 EUR per person. If you are travelling together with another adult person, you should take a weekend ticket (Wochenendticket). With this ticket up to five persons can travel for the price of 30 or 32 Euros (it is cheaper to buy the ticket on the ticket automat). If you buy the ticket in the travel centre (Reisezentrum), you will pay two Euros more. However you will get detailed information about your travel route. The train is going every hour.

Arrival at the Airport Leipzig-Halle

There is a direct train connection to Magdeburg via Halle. The train is going every hour (Check on www.bahn.de/international/view/en/index.shtml). The first train leaves at 5:05 and the last one at 23:05.
The journey will take two hours. You will arrive in Magdeburg main train station (Hauptbahnhof).

Arrival at the Airport Hanover

First you have to take the metro line S 5 (direction Hameln or Bad Pyrmont) at platform two to Hannover-Hauptbahnhof. The metro is going every hour (six minutes past the full hour) starting from 7:06. The last metro leaves at 22:06. From the main train station (platform 10) “Hauptbahnhof Hannover” there is a train going to Magdeburg Hauptbahnhof every hour (check on www.bahn.de/international/view/en/index.shtml). The first train leaves at 7:36 and the last one at 22:36. You will arrive in Magdeburg main train station.
